Metabolex has maintained an exclusive focus on type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases, making it one of the most experienced biotechnology companies in the space. To help move our product candidates from the bench to the bedside, we have partnered with some of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. Among the companies now working with our proprietary targets and compounds:

Johnson & Johnson: In 2006, we entered into a comprehensive global strategic agreement with Ortho-McNeil, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, to collaborate on the development and commercialization of multiple programs addressing metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia. Ortho-McNeil gained exclusive licenses for worldwide development and commercialization of MBX-102. Metabolex received an exclusive license to a PPAR-delta agonist program, including MBX-8025, which commenced Phase 2 clinical testing in September 2007. We also have a target collaboration in which our companies will work together to screen metabolic disease targets identified by Metabolex.
Pfizer: Using our proprietary database of human genes associated with insulin secretion and pancreatic beta cell health, we identified a series of drug development targets. Pfizer is now in the process of screening a number of those targets and developing product candidates optimized from such screens. We are entitled to downstream revenue, including royalties, from such programs without any further financial commitment.
Astellas: Metabolex has also identified a number of targets we believe may play a role in insulin resistance. Such targets were identified through our proprietary database of human genes associated with insulin resistance and obesity. Astellas has advanced a number of those targets through high-throughput screening and is conducting lead optimization on several compounds resulting from the screening program. We are entitled to downstream revenue, including royalties, from such programs without any further financial commitment.
