Edward Penhoet, Ph.D.
  Chairman of the Board; Director, Alta Partners; Board Trustee of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation 
  Dr. Penhoet is past president of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and currently a member of the Board of Trustees. Prior to his work there, Dr. Penhoet served as the dean of the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1981, he co-founded Chiron Corporation and served as its Chief Executive Officer until 1998. Dr. Penhoet sits on the boards of ZymoGenetics, Scynexis, Alta Partners, Renovis, Chimerix, and ChemoCentryx. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies and has co-authored more than 50 scientific articles and papers. Dr. Penhoet currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Independent Citizen's Oversight Committee which oversees the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine created by the passage of Proposition 71, the stem cell initiative. Dr. Penhoet earned his A.B. in biology from Stanford University and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Diego.
 
Bradley Bolzon, Ph.D.
  Managing Director, Versant Ventures
  Dr. Bolzon currently is a Managing Director of Versant Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in early stage Biotech investments. Prior to joining Versant, he served as Executive Vice President at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., where he directed business development strategy, product licensing, company acquisitions, and R&D alliances. Previously, Dr. Bolzon held executive roles at Eli Lilly and Company. He currently serves as a board director for Amira Pharmaceuticals, Antipodean Pharmaceuticals, Sentient Pharmaceuticals, Speedel Holding AG and serves as Chairman of the Board of Synosia Therapeutics. Dr. Bolzon is also Chairman of EuroVentures Inc., a wholly-owned start-up incubator of Versant Ventures. He received Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto, and conducted his post-doctoral research training at the Ottawa Heart Institute in Ottawa, Canada.
 
Robert B. Chess
  Chairman, Nektar Therapeutics; Chairman and CEO, OPX Biotechnologies, Inc.
  Robert B. Chess is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OPX Biotechnologies, Inc., and Chairman of Nektar Therapeutics. He joined Nektar in 1991 as its first non-founder employee, and was the company's Chief Executive Officer through 1999. Since 1999, he has served as Nektar's Chairman and was also the acting CEO in 2006. Mr. Chess was previously the co-Founder and President of Penederm, Inc., a publicly-traded dermatological pharmaceutical company that was sold to Mylan Laboratories. He has held management positions at Intel Corporation and Metaphor Computer Systems (now part of IBM), and was a member of the first President Bush's White House staff. Mr. Chess serves on the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), is Co-Chairman of BIO's Intellectual Property Committee, and has served as Chairman of BIO's Emerging Company Section. Mr. Chess is Chairman of Bio Venture for Global Health and is on the Board of Trustees of the California Institute of Technology and the Committee for Economic Development. He is a member of the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he teaches courses in Entrepreneurship and Management of Health Care Innovation, and is an Adjunct Fellow at Stanford's Center for Health Policy. Mr. Chess received his B.S. degree in Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Harvard.
 
Anthony B. Evnin, Ph.D.
  General Partner, Venrock
  Dr. Evnin joined Venrock in 1974 and built the firm’s healthcare franchise, helping to shape the modern biotechnology industry. He started his career as a research scientist at Union Carbide and as director of product development at Story Chemical. More than 29 of his investments have been through an initial public offering during his Venrock tenure. Dr. Evnin serves as a trustee of The Rockefeller University and previously of Princeton University. Dr. Evnin is focused on building valuable companies that address important medical needs of the world, while providing strong returns for investors. Dr. Evnin currently serves on the boards of Icagen, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Memory Pharmaceuticals, Pharmos Corporation, Renovis and Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, all Venrock investments.
 
Carl Goldfischer, M.D.
  Managing Director, Bay City Capital
  Dr. Goldfischer is an investment partner and managing director of Bay City Capital, serving as a member of the board of directors and executive committee, and has been with the firm since December 2000. His background includes extensive public and private investment and transaction work, as well as clinical trial development knowledge. Prior to joining Bay City Capital, Dr. Goldfischer was chief financial officer of ImClone Systems. Previously, he was a research analyst with the Reliance Insurance Company, helping to establish its portfolio and presence in the health care investment community. Dr. Goldfischer is a member of the board of directors for BrainCells, EnteroMedics, Etex Corporation, MAP Pharmaceuticals, Poniard Pharmaceuticals, and PTC Therapeutics. He is also a member of the board of trustees of Mt. Zion Hospital. Dr. Goldfischer received an M.D. with honors in scientific research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College.
 
Louis G. Lange, M.D., Ph.D.
  Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Science Officer, CV Therapeutics, Inc.
  Dr. Louis Lange is a founder of CV Therapeutics and has served as the Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Science Officer since August 1992. From 1980 to 1992, Dr. Lange served on the faculty of the Washington University School of Medicine, including a position as Chief of Cardiology at the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, from 1985 to 1992, and as a full Professor of Medicine from 1990 until 1992. Dr. Lange is internationally recognized as an expert in the field of molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular disease. He is currently on the Board of Trustees at the University of Rochester. He also serves on the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) Board of Directors, where he was the chair of the Emerging Companies Governing Section. Dr. Lange holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University.
   
Daan A. van den Noort, M.D.
  Chief Investment Officer, BTF
  Dr. van den Noort joined BTF full-time as Chief Investment Officer in 2002 and had been a member of the company’s business advisory board of BTF since it was founded. Before joining BTF, he was general manager at Ferring Drugs, a privately-owned pharmaceutical company in Denmark, where he specialized in the marketing and product development of pharmaceuticals. Dr. van den Noort has been product manager at Servier France in Paris and The Netherlands, as well as a marketing manager at Kabi Pharmacia Nederland, managing director at Genentech Nederland and general manager at Pharma Asta Medica Nederland. He obtained his medical degree at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
 
Harold E. Van Wart, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Metabolex, Inc.
  Dr. Van Wart currently serves as Metabolex, Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer, a member of the Board of Directors since January 2003, and President since April 2001. He served as chief operating officer from December 2002 to January 2003 and senior vice president, research and development from October 2000 to December 2002. From 1999 to 2000, Dr. Van Wart was vice president and therapy head for arthritis and fibrotic diseases at Roche Biosciences, a biopharmaceutical company. From 1992 to 1999, he was vice president and director of the institute of biochemistry and cell biology at Syntex Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company acquired by Roche Biosciences in 1994. From 1978 to 1992, Dr. Van Wart served on the faculty of Florida State University. Dr. Van Wart obtained his Ph.D. from Cornell University. He currently serves on the the Emerging Companies and Health Section Governing Boards of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, as well as on its Board of Directors. He is also a Director of Conatus, Inc.
